Our Love Story

The Night We Met ("Day Zero")

Nora's POV:
I will never forget the night I met Daniel. It was a mutual friend’s dinner. Afterwards, a smaller group of us decided to walk to a nearby spot for a drink. On our way over, Daniel introduced himself to me. We spent the entire evening talking. As the night came to a close, or so I thought, Daniel offered to drive me to my car. But neither of us was ready to say goodbye. Sitting in his car, parked beside mine, we found ourselves lost in deep conversation until the sun came up — literally. It was like we’d entered some kind of time warp, completely unaware of anything but each other. I’d never experienced anything like it. The next morning, still a little awestruck, I texted my friend and told her, “I met my future husband last night.”

Daniel's POV:
I went to the dinner party expecting to talk with my friend about technology and crypto with no idea I was about to meet my future wife. Nora caught my eye when she arrived, fashionably late, and was seated on the opposite end of the table. After dinner I was captivated by Nora from the moment I met her. We quickly connected on our love for traveling, reading, and similarities in our families (both our parents met in Hawaii then moved to Texas). As the night was coming to an end, there was a surreal force keeping us spellbound in conversation. The moment we saw the sun coming up, Spotify randomly started playing the song We Stayed Up All Night by Tourist, which started the first of a long string of signs from the universe that we were meant to be together.

The Relationship

Nora's POV:
After that unforgettable first night, two weeks passed before Daniel and I could go on our first official date. I was traveling full-time for work back then, constantly on the move, and I remember feeling worried that the magic of that night would fizzle out. But Daniel proved me wrong, texting, calling, pursuing, and keeping our connection alive. He was determined to take me to dinner, and I was loving every second of it! When we finally had our first date, it felt like picking up right where we’d left off that first night. We shared yummy food, deep conversation, and from that night on, that became our rhythm — talking, exploring, and savoring life together.

Daniel's POV:
I immediately ordered the book Nora recommended the night we met, Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, and started reading it. This led our conversations into the philosophy of the Many Worlds theory and how lucky we were to be in a timeline where we found each other. She was unlike anyone I had ever met. The intensity of our connection continued, and the more I got to know Nora, the more impressed and in love with her I became. Over the next two years, we travelled the world, advanced our careers, and planned out the life that we want to build together.

The Proposal

Nora's POV:
Daniel asked me to be his wife while on a New Years holiday in the Swiss Alps. We had reached the Matterhorn and were completely immersed in the snow-covered scenery. As we stood there, soaking in the view, Daniel suddenly got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. To my surprise, the "skiers" I had noticed earlier turned out to be professional photographers that Daniel had secretly arranged to capture the entire moment. After I said yes, we kept the exciting news to ourselves for most of the day, since we were several hours ahead with the time difference. It was like our little secret as we enjoyed the magic of the moment together. It was beyond surreal. Later that day, we called our families and friends to share the wonderful news, and their joy added to the magic of our continued celebrations. We spent the rest of our vacation in pure bliss.

Daniel's POV:
I originally planned to propose to Nora on our trip to Nantucket a few months earlier, but delays with the jeweler caused the ring to not be ready in time. This worked out for the best, as we found ourselves standing under a tree in the pouring rain at the end of a cliffside walk we'd just finished. As we stood there talking, I found myself feeling so in love with Nora, wanting to ask her to be my wife in that moment. The next opportunity was our New Years trip to Switzerland. As I was researching potential locations, I fell in love with the iconic views overlooking the Matterhorn. We spent the entire day riding the Glacier Express through the Swiss Alps and arrived in Zermatt late at night. The whole trip I was rehearsing what I would say and nervously checking the weather, hoping and praying we would have a sunny day. The next morning I woke up and the first thing I saw was the Matterhorn, glowing in the morning sun without a single cloud in the sky. When we stepped off the train "to go for a hike" I couldn't believe that we were the only ones up there. We made our way over to get a better view, I got down on one knee, and asked Nora to be my wife. She said yes!
